How to Add a Testimonial Slider to Your Squarespace Site

Testimonials are a great way to show your authority and skills to your website visitors. Without them, it would be hard to prove to someone who is getting to know your business on the Internet (and not through referrals) that you are trustworthy. In fact, 72% of customers will trust a business more after reading testimonials, so if you got ‘em, flaunt ‘em!

And if you have a lot of them that you want to show, a testimonial slider is often the way to go since it makes it easy for visitors to see what others are saying about you without taking up too much space on your site. You can display them in a neatly organized in a rotating carousel that keeps your page looking tidy and beautiful. This is pretty simple to do in Squarespace 7.1. Keep reading to learn how!

What to add to your testimonial slider

Before you create your testimonial slider in Squarespace, make sure you gather all the information you want to display. And while what you choose to display is up to you, here are some recommendations on what to include to make your testimonial slider as effective as possible:

  • Name/photo: Use full names (or at least first names and last initials) to make the testimonial more credible (as long as you have permission to do so). Even better, use photos!

  • Company name/job title: For added credibility, show your past client's business or business title.

  • Call to action (CTA): Below the slider, add a call to action button to the products/services your testimonials are talking about. You can also add CTA buttons under each individual testimonial if you want to direct your visitors to the case study pages of these previous clients/customers if you have them.

  • The testimonial: Of course, the most important thing to include in your testimonial slider is your testimonial. Since your website visitors are most likely going to be quickly clicking through your testimonial slider, choose the most impactful parts of your testimonials to grab their attention quickly.

Luckily, you can add all these things in Squarespace's built-in testimonial slider.

How to add a testimonial carousel in Squarespace

So, here’s exactly how to add a testimonial carousel in Squarespace, step by step:

  • Click Add Section in the area of the page you want to add the carousel.

  • Click Testimonials and choose one of the carousel options with the i icon that says, “These sections let you quickly add content items and switch between layouts without having to manually rearrange them.” Choose the option that is closest to how you want your testimonial carousel to look. You can make modifications to the design in a later step.

Bonus tip: While Squarespace has built-in slider options specifically for testimonials, some of the other carousels in their provided list of sections have options that can work for testimonials. For example, under the People, there are carousel options that can work for a testimonial slider if you prefer those designs.

  • Hover over the section and click Edit Content.

  • In the Elements section, select Title under Section, which you will use to name the section. Then, select the items you want to display in each testimonial. This includes your images, titles (which work best for the actual testimonial), body text (which work best for the names/business names), and buttons. To add one button under the testimonial slider, turn the Button toggle under Section on. To add buttons under each testimonial, turn the Button toggle under Items on.

  • Then click the Content tab and add in your titles, testimonials, images, and buttons.

  • From here, you can customize the size, shape, and positions of these elements in the Style and Size & Space section under the Design tab. You can customize the color of the text in the Colors tab under Edit Section. Play around with what Squarespace offers until you’re happy with what you’ve created!

  • When you’re happy with your customizations, don’t forget to hit Save on the page so you don’t lose your changes.
