How to Stand Out in Business

No matter what it is you’re doing, there’s probably a lot of people on the Internet trying to do the EXACT SAME THING.

Or at least it seems like it. In reality, though, they’re NOT YOU. No one is you.

And there are always ways to stand out in a crowded market. Keep reading!

Know the problem you’re trying to solve & who your ideal client is

Let’s say you’re a health coach.

When you first think of the ideal client of a health coach, you probably think it's someone who is trying to get healthy.

You’re trying to solve a problem that's pretty darn hard in today’s world of processed food, sedentary jobs, and food prices getting higher and higher.

BUT that problem is not really specific enough to stand out.

Especially when the competition is people who have many more years in business, and more impressive case studies.

So you need to dig deeper into the problem.

Maybe you’re a vegan coach. Who specializes in people who are over 40. Who’s trying to lose weight. Who’s trying to save money.

Now we’re getting somewhere.

Let’s say it’s all of the above.

So, with all of this in mind, the problem you’re actually trying to solve is how to lose weight, and your ideal client is a vegan who is over 40 who is trying to lose weight, but is also on a budget.

Know exactly the problem you’re trying to solve and who you are trying to solve it for.

And write for them.

Know exactly what your solution is

While having a very specific ideal client and problem you’re solving is important, it’s just as vital to understand what makes you approach the problem differently than your peers.

For example, do you approach your clients with more empathy with others? Are you more hands on? Are you always available to talk? Do you believe in less extreme efforts in favor of more long-term strategies?

Clients with seemingly the same problem may desire a different solution. You need to understand what YOUR solution is.

Whatever that is, make sure you can back up your claims.

Use your personal stories

People are 22x more likely to remember stories than they are facts.

Your stories are limitless. One of the reasons they are so powerful for your business is that there are thousands of people citing the same stats.

But here is only one person with your stories…

YOU.

So, tell your stories. One of my favorite email lists that show some amazing storytelling?

Laura Belgray’s. She always shares great stories in her emails that make you forget that she has programs that she is consistently selling.

Tell stories. They are powerful.

Provide tons of value for free

Providing value is one of the backbones of your business.

Why?

How can you expect anyone to believe you know what you talk about, without knowing your opinions on things?

The reality is that most of the “fans” of your business will spend weeks or months relying on your FREE content.

Once they realize that your beliefs actually work for them, they trust you.

And value comes in many forms. They come in case studies, stories, checklists, and more.

So, don’t be afraid to share free advice.

You don’t know who’s looking.

Grow your email list

Your email list is really the only audience you “own.”

Algorithms on Instagram, X, and Facebook, can take your audience with a Thanos snap of a finger.

But your email list? Your email list doesn’t rely on complicated algorithms, constant updates, or two hours of engagement a day.

Your email list relies on great, consistent content, with tried and tested strategies like segmentation, storytelling, and providing value.

Not to mention, email marketing has an incredible ROI, with $36 to $40 earned per $1 spent.

If you don’t want to drown in the sea of people who are trying to do similar things as you, focus on growing your email list.

Provide an incredible client/customer experience

One of the best ways to stand out in a saturated industry is to have happy clients/customer. Seriously, referrals often make up a big chunk of customers in a successful business. We’ve all worked with businesses who make a lot of promises and end up delivering on none of them.

It’s dissapointing and definitely doesn’t make us want to refer our friends to them!

But when you go above and beyond, take questions or frustrations seriously and act on them, you can make a name for yourself much quicker.
